We had a water quality study done during the summer of 2004 by Earthplace Harbor Watch/River Watch.  Dick Harris, aided by Emmy Cullin, tested the water in the creek at 5 different locations from the entrance to the pond by Rowayton School to the Bell Island Bridge once a month after the water had warmed up sufficiently during late spring and summer. Each month salinity, oxygen level and bacterial content were recorded.

The problem area on the creek is the pond by Rowayton School where ducks and geese cause the e-coli count to be extremely high, especially during dry spells. This problem still awaits the right solution.  Our recommendation: don’t swim in the creek after a heavy rain.

We also arranged for some local residents to be trained by Earthplace in how to do water testing.
